The unique destination of Convoy 73

One of the most unusual aspects of this deportation convoy is that it is the only one sent from Drancy between March 1942 and August 1944 not to have been dispatched to Auschwitz (aside from the four or five convoys sent to Maidenek, Sobibor and Buchenwald). Instead, its destination was the Baltic States, first to Kaunas in Lithuania and then Reval (now Tallinn) in Estonia, for reasons which have never been explained.
